ABOUT
A new dentsu Africa Digital Digest explores how changing consumer behaviour is reshaping digital marketing across Africa, from discovery and commerce to fintech, partnerships and growth.
New dentsu Africa Digital Digest reveals why the audience, the purchase journey and the rules of growth have fundamentally changed.
The biggest threat to brands right now is not disruption. It is habit.
Marketers are still planning around channels, campaigns, and customer journeys that consumers abandoned months ago.
The latest edition of the dentsu Africa Digital Digest argues that the biggest shifts shaping digital marketing across Africa are not happening on platforms. They are happening in behaviour.
Consumers are moving seamlessly between search, social, messaging apps, marketplaces, and creators. Gen Z can discover, validate, and purchase a product within a single mobile session. Retail demand is becoming less predictable. Fintech growth is shifting from customer acquisition to retention and trust. Audience growth increasingly sits inside partnerships and ecosystems rather than paid media alone.
According to the report, brands are facing a simple reality: attention moves faster than planning cycles.
"The boundary between digital and traditional media is disappearing. Consumers do not think in channels. They move fluidly between experiences, platforms, and moments. Marketing needs to reflect that reality," the report notes.
Among the report's key findings:
Your next customer may already belong to another brand's ecosystem, making partnerships a powerful source of growth.
Fintech's next phase will be won through trust, retention, and lifetime value rather than sign ups alone.
The retail calendar is becoming less dependable as consumer intent shifts according to culture, economics, promotions, and social discovery.
Seventy three percent of consumers aged 18 to 24 use smartphones for online shopping, collapsing discovery, validation, and conversion into a single experience.
Commerce journeys increasingly span TikTok, Google, WhatsApp, and marketplaces before purchase decisions are made. The digest also displays how dentsu's Merkury technology helped drive investment leads for Standard Chartered's Signature CIO proposition, delivering a 7% lower cost per lead and 19.32% higher engagement versus Meta targeting approaches. For African marketers, the message is clear.
Stop planning around platforms. Start planning around behaviour. Because consumers no longer move through a funnel. They move through moments.
